Film North was started in 2004. While It was headquartered in Beverly, MA, it covered surrounding areas and we had about 300 members within a year of starting. This was accomplished with a minimal amount of publicity. Members range from people who have produced feature film to those starting out. There is a lot of creativity in the area, and we are harnessing the potential. The idea is to provide an opportunity for people to work in areas that they love.

As of 9/22/06, we have become Film North, Inc. We will be going the 501(c) 3 route to be a non-profit organization. This might entitle us to additional grants or funds to help us expand and provide additional events. There will be two types of membership – a guest and general paid membership. The paid memberships are as follow: students and seniors are $10, $20 for individual members, and $75 for corporate membership. We also have donors for $500. The paid members are entitled to a few additional benefits and the right to vote.

The organization provides the public with screenings of feature films and shorts. Several members have obtained employment opportunities and several members collaborated on a short film. We have had one “Film Feast” and will have another May 15, 2008. It will be a juried film festival of shorts 5 minutes or less.
