Filmmaking with Your Smartphone (Online)

Starts May 28

2 sessions: Thursday-Friday, May 28-29, 9am-12pm

Your smartphone can shoot amazing high-definition footage. Learn how to harness your phone’s potential using the FiLMiC Pro mobile HD video app, shoot and edit footage, and upload it to social media sites. FiLMiC Pro (for iPhone or Android) is the gold standard app for mobile HD video used to shoot the award-winning feature film Tangerine.

Students will learn remotely how to conduct interviews, capture great sound, and practice steady, sequenced video. After shooting a short film, you’ll learn how to edit your video using iMovie (or a similar app such as Premiere Rush for Android users) and upload your video to various social media sites. Other topics discussed are livestreaming, handheld considerations, and optimizing lighting conditions. Students should have their iPhone or Android phone (and charger) with at least 3GB of space available and FiLMiC Pro already installed. iPad users are welcome.

NOTE: Participation in this online course requires that you use the free Zoom cloud-based video conferencing service. For optimal performance it is highly recommended that you install Zoom to your computer rather than using it through a web browser. A few days prior to the class start date we’ll e-mail you the link and ID code needed to access this class on Zoom. Your instructor will be provided a student roster to take attendance. Click here for a tutorial on how to join a Zoom meeting and much more.

Tuition: $80 / $60 low-income
