Pixelation Animation: Get Physical!

Starts July 25

Ages 10-14. July 25-29, 9am-12pm

Students will explore embodied filmmaking through pixelation techniques. Pixelation is a stop motion animation technique in which the body is the subject in the frame (as opposed to inanimate objects or drawings). Through guided improvisation exercises, students will learn how to break down movements and gestures into tiny increments for each frame, acting as a stop motion puppet. In addition, they will practice collaboration and how to communicate ideas when working with actors – skills important for directing in film.

Students will walk away from the class with their own pixelation film as well as the skills and understanding of how to create such a film. Students should bring journals and wear comfortable clothing for moving around. All movement abilities are welcome. Students should also have access to phones with cameras, and should download the following free software: iMovie and Stop Motion Studio.

A note about Covid: As it stands, the plan for this course is to be in-person. FilmNorth will be monitoring the state of Covid and making decisions about safety as the situation unfolds. This course may be adapted to an online format if things are deemed unsafe.

Tuition: $195
