Working with a Professional Colorist

Starts March 19

1 session: Saturday, March 19, 10 am–1 pm

Location: Splice, 119 N 2nd St, Mpls 55401

When you start pre-production on a film project, you think about story. You think about camera. You think about editing. You think about music. But what about color and its effect on your story? How can you best prepare during the production process to work with a colorist in post and achieve the look you want? A professional colorist has incredibly powerful tools to do this and can work most efficiently and cost-effectively when a client is well prepared. In this workshop Splice’s Senior Colorist Michael Sandness teaches participants key strategies and language—including how to prepare for a color session—and demonstrates in his state-of-the-art facility all that a colorist can bring to your project. Register early – space is limited!

Tuition: $100 regular/$75 member/$55 low-income

Michael Sandness_HEADSHOTA dedicated colorist for both broadcast and cinema, Michael Sandness has worked on a wide variety of television, feature, and short-form programming. Recent broadcast credits include ABC’s “In An Instant,” and the History Channel’s “America UnEarthed,” and feature credits include Zanuck Independent Films’ “Voice From the Stone,” starring Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clark. Described by clients as “a prolific colorist with a really sharp mind,” Michael’s multifaceted background as a professional drummer, and later a video editor working on projects world-wide, informs his decade of experience in color grading with an intrinsic understanding of the rhythm, pacing, and emotional undercurrents of both narrative and documentary programming, and how color reinforces and expands upon these qualities to drive the story home.
