The Screen & The Female Gaze

In this class designed for women of all backgrounds and communities, we turn to female directors such as Lynne Ramsay, Jane Campion, and Claire Denis for inspiration in visual storytelling. We’ll begin by screening selected clips, followed by group discussion to spark ideas for writing a short script. Cinema Production Intensive – Focus on Social Message

Create awareness. Promote change. This introductory class covers core elements of cinema production as participants create powerful short social issue ads in the process. Students learn HD video camera (Canon C100) and audio gear functionality in the morning and write, shoot, and edit ads in the afternoon. Visual Storytelling & Storyboard

Learn how to use storyboard to make your stories engaging. Students are introduced to visual storytelling principles and planning in a storyboard and animatic format applicable to filmmaking and animation. You’ll learn basics of Adobe Animate Creative Cloud software (for Mac) and produce an original story for animation. Investigative Documentary Workshop

Radio reporter and filmmaker Allison Herrera will discuss the ins and outs of tackling an investigative reporting project in this workshop. We'll concentrate on the Native American community in Minneapolis and how media coverage of Native issues is problematic in largely focusing on social ills, protests, or powwows and overlooking many of the complexities behind the headlines.
