FilmNorth secures Major Capital Campaign Donations, Ensuring a New Home in 2024

Total capital project fundraising stands at $13.7 million. Grand Opening Fall 2024.

In support of its ongoing capital campaign, FilmNorth, the largest filmmaker support organization in the Upper Midwest, received four grants in December 2023 totaling more than $2 million: a $1.1 million grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, an $888,750 Transit Oriented Development grant from the Metropolitan Council (TOD), a $250,000 grant from the Best Buy Foundation, and a second $100,000 grant from the Hardenbergh Foundation.

2024 McKnight Media Artist Fellowships Applications Now Open

The 2024 McKnight Artist & Culture Bearer Fellowships Program provides annual unrestricted cash awards to outstanding Minnesota artists whose work is of exceptional artistic merit and who are at a career stage beyond emerging. In collaboration with the McKnight Foundation, FilmNorth is offering four prestigious McKnight Media Artist Fellowships, each valued at $25,000, with a sustained commitment to media arts, showcasing artistic excellence and a high level of proficiency in their craft. The selected McKnight Media Artist Fellows will not only receive financial support but also benefit from various opportunities to enhance their artistic journey.

2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards Screenings

The Film Independent Spirit Awards celebrate the achievements of today’s most compelling filmmakers. For this exclusive program, members of Film Independent, FilmNorth and the Walker Art Center have the chance to see 16 of the year’s finest indie films—nominees for Best Feature, Best First Feature, Best Documentary—at no charge.

Current FilmNorth members may reserve up to 2 tickets per screening. Reservations are not required but are recommended to secure your spots. All screenings are at The Walker Cinema.
