FilmNorth to Receive $35,000 Award from The National Endowment for the Arts

FilmNorth is pleased to announce it has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for a Grants for Arts Projects award of $35,000. This grant will support FilmNorth’s newly rebranded “North Summit,” an annual gathering of media makers, arts funders, and other stakeholders in the film industry, and FilmNorth’s 5th annual Inclusive & Socially Conscious Filmmaking Lab.

“The NEA is proud to continue our nearly 60 years of supporting the efforts of organizations and artists that help to shape our country’s vibrant arts sector and communities of all types across our nation,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “It is inspiring to see the wide range of creative projects taking place, including FilmNorth’s North Summit and Inclusive & Socially Conscious Filmmaking Lab.”

We’re proud for the continued and sustained support FilmNorth receives from the NEA,” sais FilmNorth Executive Director Andrew Peterson. “And we’re especially proud that they recognize and value these two signature programs of ours that serve hundreds of media artists as they build and grow successful artistic practices in The North.

And a big congratulations to the 35 Minnesota organizations that received NEA funding this round, including longtime FilmNorth partners TPT, Mizna, and the Playwrights’ Center. Click here for the NEA press release will full details on nationwide funding recipients.

I am so grateful for the support and opportunities that FilmNorth provides to help foster the next generation of artists in our community. Not only are they an organization that supports the education of filmmakers, but they have consistently supported and helped to lift up voices of underrepresented communities. –Laura Fries, Award-winning Independent Film Producer
